Creative

INTRO TO
SEWING

This course will help you learn to sew from the very beginning – no experience necessary! We’ll walk you through sewing basics such as understanding the mechanics of a sewing machine, sewing techniques, understanding measurements and patterns, how to cut fabric and the construction of a garment. At the first session the tutor will provide you with a pattern and a list of materials you will need. You’ll make a simple garment of your choice. The terminology, tools and techniques made available to you in this course, will assist you in achieving professional results.

PAPER MACHE SCULPTURE COURSE

Dive into the world of paper mache and learn to model your own unique sculptures! With just some newspaper, glue, and water, you can bring your creative ideas to life. From abstract art to intricate animal replicas, by experimenting with different shapes, textures and finishes the possibilities are endless. Guided by talented visual artist and sculptor Lizette, participants will learn the entire sculpting process over the course of six weeks.

FASHION DESIGN FOR BEGINNERS

This eight-week course is for anyone interested in fashion design teaching essential skills and offering hands-on experience. Covering key topics such as fabric knowledge, design principles, colour theory, fashion illustration, and garment design, the course emphasises practical learning to build confidence and creativity. Students will apply their skills in the final two weeks by producing a capsule collection and storyboards showcasing their unique vision. Perfect for all levels, this course provides a great foundation to start your journey in the exciting world of fashion design.

VISUAL ARTS

Enjoy the freedom of working with mixed media – paints, pastels, inks and charcoals – and a variety of art forms, like printing, along the way.

DEVELOP THE ARTIST WITHIN

Foundation art skills and beyond.
Have you always wanted to be able to draw and paint well, but life just got in the way?
Do you want to learn and develop the techniques to draw and paint across all the art mediums, E.g. acrylic, watercolour, graphite and colour pencil, gouache and soft pastel.
This will be a skill based, ongoing course where you can practise your new art skills, meet people and have fun.
Come and join us on Tuesday nights, meet new friends and develop the artist within.

CREATIVE KITCHEN PROGRAM

Ready to boost your culinary skills and confidence? Join our cooking program where you’ll learn how to prepare and cook delicious meals and share them with fellow foodies. We focus on minimising food waste and maximising your grocery haul. Plus, learn how to cook for a crowd during our monthly community lunches.

Cass leads our Creative Cooking program with a passion for food and community. A qualified chef and baker, she brings extensive experience in delivering a variety of community-based food programs that focus on sustainability and supporting local food systems. Cass finds true joy in sharing her love of cooking and using food to foster social connections and bring people together.

URBAN FOOD GARDENING

No matter the size of your urban growing space, learn to grow nutrient-dense food, using regenerative gardening practices. Gain knowledge and learn hands-on skills to plan and maintain a biodiverse, productive garden. This course is great for beginners, as wells as experienced home gardeners.

Laurel is a qualified and experienced horticulturist with a background in sustainable horticulture, education and nursery management. She brings her extensive knowledge of plants and her warmth, and enthusiasm for teaching to learners at all stages of their journey in horticulture.

HOME BAKING COURSE

Unleash your inner baker with creative recipes you’ll love in this practical home baking course. 
Discover the joy of home baking in our 6-week no-fuss course, led by our passionate and knowledgeable tutor, Cass. This hands-on program is perfect for anyone eager to learn both sweet and savory recipes including dishes such as homemade bagels and fresh loaves of sourdough. All ingredients and materials provided. We recommend that you bring along an apron and a container in case there’s leftovers!

Our English conversation course is designed for people already using English in the community who want to elevate their communication skills. The content is flexible, tailored to students’ needs and interests. Students enhance their speaking skills while discussing topics such as history, art, current affairs, and culture, with a special focus on Australian society. This prepares them to engage in real-world conversations and navigate everyday interactions within an Australian cultural context.

Our English Conversation and Sewing Class helps you improve both your English and sewing skills. You’ll learn important sewing terms while practicing talking about fabric, tools, and techniques. You’ll also learn how to use a sewing machine and craft projects from recycled materials. By the end, you’ll feel confident using sewing terms, operating a sewing machine, and creating useful items from fabric waste.
